The Danish artist Marie Lund (*1976, Copenhagen) pursues sculptural issues in her work and engages in a complex approach to the medium of sculpture. She is interested in the transformation of materials and the shaping of forms. Her sculptures are characterized by the use and change of volume as well as material-related texture. Bodies, everyday objects, and architectural elements are the starting points for her artistic research into the nature of surface and structure. The artist uses a variety of materials such as copper, concrete, plaster, and textiles, as well as found objects. For the presentation at the Kunstmuseum St. Gallen, she will create new sculptural works that extend outside the museum. They refer to particular architectural elements such as columns, ceiling constructions, and facade design. In the exhibition space and in the city outside, they are recoded and are placed in relation to the spatial disposition in the exhibition context. The world that Marie Lund offers us to explore is familiar, unexpected, and surprising at the same time.
